Open-Source Network Software, Rebranded

Rebranded BSD-based OPNsense and Zabbix into client-specific products with a custom plugin, then packaged and distributed a company product for Ubuntu — with a proof-of-concept Windows build.

  • OPNsense
  • FreeBSD
  • Zabbix
  • Python
  • PHP
  • JavaScript
  • Debian packaging
  • Ubuntu
  • Windows

At Shazab FutureTech I took mature open-source platforms and turned them into client-branded products — and owned the packaging and distribution that got that software onto real machines.

Rebranding OPNsense + a custom plugin

  • Rebranded OPNsense — the BSD-based (FreeBSD) firewall & gateway platform — into a client-specific product, reworking its appearance and presentation to match the client’s brand using Python, PHP and JavaScript.
  • Built a customized OPNsense plugin on the platform’s native plugin system, tailored to the client’s requirements, with thorough testing and debugging across builds.
  • Set up the packaging & distribution pipeline for the rebranded OPNsense — the package bundled the custom plugin, so a single install delivered both the rebrand and the tailored functionality.

Rebranding Zabbix

  • Rebranded Zabbix — the monitoring & analytics platform — into a client-branded product, customizing its UI and presentation to the client’s specifications.

Packaging & distribution

  • Packaged and distributed the company’s product for Linux (Ubuntu) — Debian packaging, versioning, dependency management, and repository maintenance, with compatibility testing across target environments.
  • Built a proof-of-concept distribution for Windows, mirroring the Linux packaging approach so the same product could ship to Windows machines. (The product itself was developed by a separate team; my focus was the packaging and distribution layer.)
